In the fall of 2020, I had the opportunity to draw a portrait of the owner of Maria’s Packaged Goods and Bridgeport icon, Maria.
This commission led to a conversation about creating a can design for Marz Community Brewing.
While this conversation was hypothetical, I wanted to take the time to develop a can design for what I whole heartedly believe is one of the best breweries in the world.
For this can design, I wanted to pull in a variety of elements from sources including:
My drawing style, the city of Chicago, and one of the core values of Marz; community.

Elements that inspired the can design include: the purple cone flower, the quintessential neighborhood feel of Chicago, and the “helping hands” of community.
